Brahms Hungarian Dances
on: January 15, 2019, 12:17:00 AM
I'm a bit surprised at how little attention the solo piano version these get (besides the 5th one). I think they are really great piano pieces. I ordered a copy of them and tried to sight read them, they are quite difficult. Maybe that's why they don't get recorded much. Has anyone learned the solo versions of these?

I've got them in solo piano version in both the Dover score (Mandyczewski) as well as the Ricordi one (Marciano), and have always found them to be lots of fun, but hard as hell, too. Back in my heyday as an amateur pianist  8) I used to play mostly numbers 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7.

i really like and listen to and have plans to take stabs at the Moszkowski solos of these, i'd recommend exploring those too!
playlist /collection link, you'll need to copy paste and remove the brackets, the new forum format tries to create an embed link which this isn't and will result in a playback error but pasting into browser will work

Thank you very much, I was not aware of these. The only transcription I had heard were Cziffra's (ridiculous) transcriptions of them. These seem much more tasteful (although I do enjoy Cziffra's approach, it's not something I would ever consider trying to learn  ;) )
