'Obstinato' - Ode to a Merry Prankster

A rag piano concerto for this special day.  ;D

The time for the April fools joke has elapsed.  The cacophony of laughter elicited was more than I expected:))

Haha!  You owe us a composition.  ;D  I heard there is a JUST FOR FUN write a variation on a Russian theme contest going on.  You should enter!  I remember hearing very nice fugues that you wrote and also a piece that went thru different styles as the piece went on from Bach to Beethoven to late romantic.  Also, your name - you are a natural for the contest!  Don't need to submit anything until the end of the year.  I can even delay this deadline if you or others need more time.  I understand if you are busy or not interested though.  Thanks for considering.  :)

Hey Georgey,
There was a piece there for April fool's day... but how long does one watch a banana peal beside  a man-hole? :)
I'll have to check out the theme picked - but if Rhonde has already used it, why not choose another theme, thereby allowing him to participate?
But I guess seeing his example may inspire others to jump in.
In that light, I wrote a piece (a fugue in the romantic style) that had as its main subject a theme that felt very Russian to me... (in fact, 'Russian' was in its original title).
Here it is (in case you want to take a listen... 3 1/2 minutes long)  :

I'll check out the theme - I may have a go at it.
Cheers!

Fantastic fugue!  This kicks my butt!

My goal is to encourage new composition on a common theme, including myself, even if this means coming out of your comfort zone.  Ronde is considering writing new variations on the Russian theme in the styles of Bach and Beethoven.  I’m sure this is a little out of his comfort zone.  I would never have picked this theme to write variations on, but I thought I would give it a try.

I basically have it written now (about 3 minutes long at 120 bpm).  I may post it soon with ability to modify before the 12/31/2019 contest submission deadline. .  If you decide to enter the contest and your work is the same quality as the fugue here, I will need to completely re-write this if I have any hope in trying to keep up with you.

Hope you decide to enter.  Would love to hear what you come up with! We all have plenty of time hopefully.  I can extend the deadline if needed.

Cheerio!  :D
