Beautifully recorded.
Yes the close xy mics of Zoom Q3HD
Thanks for including that detail: I've heard good things about the Zoom products, but I've never heard any results from it. My playback equipment was just a chromebook with some ten dollar tiny little disposable speakers plugged into the 1/8" headphone jack, and I could hear every note just fine.
In fact, I don't recall ever hearing this piece before, although I obviously have (Gould, Luba Edlina, and probably a million others not among my records) so thank you for that. I think it's that I don't remember the tune at quite your tempo, but it's a fine choice.
No, I don't have any criticism. There are places where the rubato is a little intense for my tastes, like in bars 36-37 and a few spots elsewhere, but that doesn't have anything to do with your performance.
Like, also, just before the "più adagio" toward the end of the piece (the downward set of arpeggios), I don't like the tone of the top note of each arpeggio.
That doesn't have anything to do with your performance at all. It's just personal taste, and it's all down to what I would do if I played the piece. Honestly, I don't think either me nor most people would have the patience to not only record the tune in impeccable quality, but to do it with good artistry.
I think it's ready to go to pressing. Put the other two from Op. 117 with it and make a nice little video and you could be the next Katy Swift Bieber.
IOW, I don't hear any flaws in the recording, which is excellent from a technical perspective, nor in the execution. In fact, it's an interesting rendition which prompted me to grab the score and see for myself what you were doing, which I think is pretty high praise.
ETA Even more than that, you make me want to play this piece myself. I think that's the highest praise that can be given. Not only does it sound good, the way you do it, but it makes me want to do this one myself, knowing full well that it would take some effort to get the notes and make decisions about the interpretation. What higher praise can there be?
