Notation Question
on: May 29, 2019, 02:20:09 PM
How do I play the notes with the crotchet rest directly above.   I have forgotten  what my tutor told me.  :-\

Thanks for your help.

Looks like 4/4 time, This hand has two voices: one is the bottom whole  note that is held throughout the measure.  The next voice is the other notes in the Bass,  the 2nd note is played on beat 2.  The last note is played on beat 3 and held for beat 4

Rh: the first note is 1.5 beats, the next is 1/2 beat.
When you put this together in the two hands, the third note in the measure will follow the 2nd by 1/2 beat

Count out these measures as 1 and 2 and ....

Thank you so much,  dogperson.

Sorry, yes the piece is in common time,  there are 5 measure like that, and I have found it very tricky, your explanation is excellent and it makes it much clearer to me how to play.
I was forgetting to hold the whole note throughout the measures.

Sometimes when a rhythm is unclear, typing it into a notation program and using the computer to play it back perfectly will help.
