chopin mazurka op68 no4
on: July 14, 2019, 11:43:54 AM
I am confused about this piece and wonder if anyone can help me. In some recordings there is a middle section and although there is a lot of discussion about it on the web I am unable to find a score which includes it.
There also appears to be a lot of controversy about this work - is it his last? Where does middle section come from? Should it be included? Do people like it etc etc
I would really appreciate some input on this and particularly where I can find the complete score.
Many thanks

I’m not sure there is a final answer, as there has been attempted reconstruction from the original manuscript. If you haven’t seen this reference from the Chopin Institute, you will find it enlightening

According to the link below, you might want to look for the Eiker version

Thank you so much for this. I had found the article which is certainly not definitive and just adds to the mystery. After all this I have to say I am not that keen on the middle section firstly because its accuracy is in doubt and also it sounds a bit clunky and IMHO detracts from the beautiful outer sections rather than enhances them. Your response is however most appreciated. Great resource here as someone invariably comes back on any question or topic.
