Thanks for posting this. Although you have technical skill in abundance it is the musicianship in your Liszt playing which strikes me. In some hands that final piece would be virtuosic silent film accompaniment, but your playing has an added depth of poetry which makes all the difference and which I hope is discerned by those who matter.

Yes, bit of a puzzle to me too. Mind you, I know nothing of the world of classical music, competitions or what qualities and repertoire are valued in performers. Oh well, worse things happen at sea I suppose. Unleash da fury about it and carry on regardless.

I’d love to record some of my considerable Liszt rep in a good studio some time

In this particular comp, the majority got cut off, from 70 that applied, 56 that played and 14 that advanced (2 people from each of the 7 prescreening locations)

Unfortunately very limited number of spots this year

Back in 2011 when I did in fact pass to this comp, there were 24 spots

Much better for music though; safe is boring.
