Schumann Symphonic Etudes, Live
on: October 20, 2019, 03:17:27 PM
A camera made it so that I couldn't get the first part of the theme, but the rest is there.
This was the last piece of a recital with Mozart kv 511, Liszts fantasy and fugue on BACH, Scriabin 5 and Estampes... so I was very tired, and decided to not play very many repeats, but I think it was rather successful anyway.

Yes, I would agree this is successful. And it didn’t sound tired either. Very musical and passionate and gave me some good ideas. My one criticism which is totally superficial, is I completely disagree with your placement of the supplemental variations, haha. Consider them in the future as they happen to be my favorite part of the piece. But it is not incomplete what you did. It is quite good.

Those two supplementary ones are where they're put in my score. I have the older version, so that might be why.

Once I selected which ones I'd  really like to play (as there are a few more supplementary ones)I think I will change the order a bit, because I agree they're not placed in the right order.

The tired part is that I skipped almost all the repeats... :P

No harm in the repeats. I missed that there were a couple of the supplements in there. I thought you played without any of them, so that’s my mistake. And the ones you played likely were well placed, as I didn’t recognize them for what they were. My favorite is the beautiful D flat major and another slower one in 3/4. Going from memory on all of this, so I apologize. And to be clear, the piece as a whole is better than any of its single parts, and those parts are not necessary to the whole, only creative additions adding to the whole that give a performer some choice in where or if to include them.

And I must say I heard the winner of an international competition play this in the final round of the competition he won with great technical control, but not half the musicality of your performance. I can tell you get it and it’s in you.

Sorry for the confusion over the supplements. I gonna go take some supplements for my brain now.

I apparently didn't answer to this, which is strange as it made me very happy. I have worked very hard (and very long) on this piece, and I'm happy it shows :)
