So, after years of prevarication, I took the plunge and upgraded to a grand piano..

Congratulations on your new piano!  Elegant playing as usual.  Looking forward to future recordings on this instrument.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

It is a Steinhoff  ;D

which is in fact a Chinese make. It is considerably better than I had expected, tbh. I'm still playing around with working out optimal recording methods - it being in a fairly small room of course isn't conducive to best quality audio - but it's looking promising!

Good on you Andrew, that is sure to give your music a kick. Yes, optimal recording in an ordinary room takes several days to find because of the many different combinations of parameters. There are those on the devices themselves, there are those involving position, and there are options with the piano and the room. The consolation is that the exercise  only has to be done once. It is a necessary chore though because you might find, as I did, that the setup which gives the best sound is not at all an obvious choice.

The room is fairly small, so not much scope for experimentation with the position of the piano. Certainly got some options re the mic though. I didn't use one here, other than the internal one for the recorder. No reverb, just noise reduction. It sounds ok, but probably only at the functional stage audio-wise just now.
