Plus testing mics.

For various reasons I haven’t been posting as often lately. I usually warm up to improvisation rather than with it but that doesn’t matter. I am still drawn to your playing, with its impassioned, lyrical phrasing over simple but highly effective chord changes, it has a quality of lasting beauty.
I found the bass lacking in what I can only term warmth and orchestral power. This is to do with recording, not your playing of course. There is some parameter yet to be tweaked, might be the room, lateral reflections or any one of dozens of things.

Yes, I agree the bass is a bit unfocused and woolly. A small room doesn't help. I've got mics sitting on portable tripods actually on the piano lid, which probably isn't optimal. I don't really feel I can put the lift up on a regular basis though, with there being someone directly next door.

I would try setting the tripod as far behind you as you can and see how that sounds.
Close-up for the piano isn't able to catch the fullness of the sound.
But you should know that having professionally recorded.
Enjoy your new piano!

I will experiment some more with placement. Normally I would place the mics somewhat to the rear of the instrument and at a short distance away, but due to room dimensions this isn't completely feasible (the instrument itself has its back against the wondow), and also I normally have the lid down, simply because it is quite overpowering with it up in a small space. I'm also noticing, somewhat curiously, and I don't think I'm imagining it, that the sound I hear sitting on the stool varies in richness depending upon the temperature of the room (as it's winter here, and cold by UK standards, that probably varies between about 0 to 5C and 20C, depending on whether the heating is on).

If the room dimension does not allow for positioning the mics away from the piano, try raising them upward from the piano. It would still in effect put distance between the instrument and the mics.
Enjoy your new piano.
