Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall Piano List

https://www.cso.org/main.taf?erube_fh=csocom

So I'm sitting here looking at the long list of pianists who will be performing at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall, when it occured to me that no one performs any Chopin, not a single pianist. Why is this?  :-[

Bah, that link seems to be a little misleading.

Just select  "Piano" from the drop down menu to see what I mean...

looks like you are referring to concerto repertoire with the symphony, not recitals.  Then it's a simple matter of supply and demand.  Chopin didn't write very many things for piano and orchiestra - mostly solo piano.  So there are a couple of concertos, and a few flashy and actually very nice pieces that I like a lot - the Krakowiak and the variations on the Don Juan theme -   Problem is, orchestras HATE to play his music - he was fabulous at writing for the piano, but SUCKED at orchestra parts, so his things won't be played very often.  It's a shame, because they are wonderful to listen to.

The schedule under the "piano" drop-down  shows chamber (with piano), orchestral, and solo piano recitals. It is unusual that none of the recitalists have Chopin on the schedule. There are lots of piano concertos, and Chopin only wrote two. Both are in the standard rep., and are performed regularly.

But you all have to admit, the orchestration of the Chopin Concerti are terrible. Heck, I'd go so far as to say that I can orchestrate better than the man.

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
