Schubert Piano Sonata, D. 157
on: March 28, 2020, 03:53:33 AM
This is the first Schubert Piano Sonata, D. 157, in three movements. It is generally thought to be incomplete (lack of a fourth movement) because it ends with a Minuet/Trio in B Major (the tonic of the first movement is E Major). Nevertheless, I find the three existing movements to be rather nice.

It is rarely performed and may be unfamiliar to some of you. I chose not to repeat the first movement exposition.

Recorded on a Yamaha Clavinova and rendered with Garritan CFX.

I.    0:00      Allegro ma non troppo
II.   5:29      Andante
III.  12:40   Allegro vivace

Never heard it as i gravitate towards the later sonatas.
Pleasant enough, but it doesnt tear at the heart strings as some of the later works do. It could almost be Haydn.
Well played.
