Singers - Opera and Otherwise
on: January 28, 2005, 05:41:00 PM
I was talking to my piano teacher recently, and he started talking about Renee Fleming, one of his friends from Julliard and the current "it" girl in opera. Somehow we began talking about "male sopranos" who sing falsetto up to a high a ( an octave and a sixth above middle c) or even a high c in some cases. I was really interested, so I looked into it, and found male tenors who can sing a high f (an octave and a fourth above mid c) in full voice, and some female singers who can sing notes FOUR OCTAVES above middle c, or, in the case of Mariah Carey, who has recorded the highest note produced from the human voice, a g# four octaves and a minor sixth above mid c. Am I the only one who finds this incredible? Here's a link:https://www.dutchdivas.net/frames/linksenglish.html
The audio samples are lower on the page - My favorites are Erna Sack, William Matteuzzi, and the Basso Profundo, who sings a double low g ( 2 octaves and a fourth below mid c). Who are everyone else's favorite singers? Some of mine include Adam Pascal, Idina Menzel, Raul Esparza, Kristin Chenoweth, and Sarah Brightman.

Anne Sophie von Otter has one of the most beautiful voices i've ever heard.

ivan rebrov (ff) large range, profundo. what i liked is that he sang to his audience, personally. he actually strolled down the aisle and sang to everyone in a concert i heard in la (many years ago).

do you know why benches fall apart? it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them. hint: buy a bench that does not hinge. buy it for sturdiness.
