Improvisation experiment - response to Kalospiano
on: December 02, 2020, 05:59:00 PM
ok, so this is my quick response (recorded before listening so as to avoid any potential influence), probably a bit more tonal and overtly Romantic in nature, but it seems to have some similar textures, trying to catch the mood of the swirling fog and mist.

thank you for this, I'm really happy that I generated such kind of reaction.
I started listening to your piece and I was immediately so surprised that it had such a similar feel to mine, but maybe I shouldn't have been since we were inspired by the same subject.
You also used some growling tremolo and a similar "crescendo" (probably not using the correct term here) in the bit between 1:00 and 1:10.
In the end your improv offered much more variety than mine.
I'm just putting it out there, but I guess we might have some kind of regular event on this forum? Sort of an Improvisation Challenge, a bit in the style of the Reddit Piano Jams or the Pianoworld Online Recitals: the users elect a subject, maybe via a Poll, and the participants submit their own work on that subject. Just an idea, although I don't know how many people would join...

We tried that with a theme ten years ago and it drew several interesting contributions.

I would give it a try with a picture, a bit of fun, although I might not be much good at it.

Any sort of improvisation event would be fine with me. I actually much prefer improvising on moods than on concrete themes tbh.

looking at that old thread I have the impression that there was much more people in 2011... I guess it would be just the three of us we did a similar event nowadays :)

Yes, it does seem more active. And the thread looks quite good in terms of drawing people into thinking about improvisation as a valid form of expression.
