That depends.  A lot of keyboards don't have 88 keys, so you have less room to manuever.  And some aren't touch responsive, which means dynamics get thrown out of the window.  But there are some digitals with weighted keys, touch-response, pedal, and 88 keys, and those come close to sounding and feeling like a regular piano.  But they cost a LOT of money - sometimes more than an acoustic (at least uprights).  The advantage is that they're portable.

One can go a long way on a digital piano (I assume you are talking about digitals; keyboards are a subspecies of digital pianos). However, keep in mind that comparing digitals to acoustics is like comparing apples to oranges. Read through all those threads in the Instruments section of this forum, and you'll get an idea.

I further assume that you are thinking about getting a digital, but an acoustic piano is in the end what you really want to be playing on. In this case, by all means go ahead with a digital. However, take every opportunity to play on an acoustic (teacher, school, stores, etc.). If you do this, you will at one point realize yourself what the limitations of a digital piano are compared to a good acoustic. That will be the moment when you will want an acoustic.
