[Video] Debussy - Reflets dans l'eau
on: February 11, 2021, 04:56:37 PM
I've been playing this piece on and off for a couple years and it's one of my favorites of Debussy. I'm pretty happy with this recording but I've definitely got some work to do  ;D

Great job, I think you should be happy about this!  :D I think you have a great affinity for this piece and its character. Musically, the main thing that stood out to me as something you ould work on is that you could differentiate between your p:s and your pp:s more. Sometimes I couldn't hear that the dynamic had shifted though I could see it in the score. Sometimes your pp was slightly louder than the p that came before it. I think working on that a bit could elevate this piece to the next level :)

Glad you enjoyed it; I’d definitely agree that I should work on dynamic contrasts more and keeping the sound even. Thank you for your comments!

Lovely playing, I really enjoyed that. Despite the simple recording one can hear that you treat the sounds and colors of this piece with finesse. (of course there is room for improvement as you yourself point out) Great orchestral feel to the loud parts.

There's something about the very beginning that sounds a bit too 'matter of fact'... Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to go romantic-sentimental-rubato-mad about it, but some kind of flexibility seems to me to be missing. Maybe it's just that you're still not quite finished with the piece and feels just slightly tense when you start out. I think what I want to say is that you could create more magic here if your right hand was even softer and suppler. One doesn't want to have the physical impression that the hand is "jumping around" because somehow that interferes with the musical impression. Does that make any sense? Anyway, great job.

Very enjoyable.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

For sure, the beginning could definitely feel more fluid and organic (though not too sentimental, I'd agree). Thank you for your nice comments!

Very enjoyable.

Thank you!
