[Video] William Grant Still - Three Visions
on: March 01, 2021, 04:56:42 PM
Here is a video recording of Still's three Visions for piano, which was done as part of an appreciation concert for his music. I was looking in the search bar and I think this is the first time someone posted their performance of a piece by Still in the audition room, so that's cool.

Critiques on my playing are encouraged

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't heard of him either until August of last year (2020)

Thanks for sharing.  Have not heard his music before.

There is an interesting contrast in harmonic approach in these three pieces.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Actually, Visitor, I listened and in secret bought the Three Visions score.  So far, I have only played one.. but the other two are on my ‘someday’ list.  I don’t think I will play them as well as the OP, but nevertheless I am a fan of Still’s. You were heard

Yeah, Definitely. The first one has a lot of diminished triads while the third one has some augmented triads within some chords. Seeing that the titles are "Dark Horseman" and "Radiant Pinnacle" respectively, I think that was on purpose haha.

Where did you get the score from?  I can't find it in the UK or as a download.  The postage from the US is almost the same as the score itself from the Grant Still family website.  Thanks

Yeah the shipping was pretty expensive, and I live in Canada.
On Youtube you can find a score video of it, that could be a way to learn the notes, that's actually how I learned as I was waiting for it to be shipped, haha.
