Minimalism - what is it?

Can someone please explain what 'minimalism' is? I'm quite interested.
Also who was a minimalist, besides John Cage?

hm.. i didn't think john cage was a minimalist composer. perhaps your assuming that because of something like his piece 4"33? (i wouldn't really describe 4"33 as "minimalist", though..) Anyway, Phillip Glass is definately a "minimalist" composer. if you listen to some of his music, it might give you a better idea of what minimalism is
