The first half of my senior recital I will be giving next spring is centered around the music of J. S. Bach. As it stands, I am planning on performing the Bach/Brahms Chaconne, the Busoni Fantasia nach J. S. Bach, and ending with the first five contrapuncti from The Art of Fugue.

As that is a lot of pretty heavy music back-to-back, I'm hoping for a shorter, somewhat contrasting piece of music to interpose between the Chaconne and the Fantasy. I would like a piece that is a transcription of Bach's music or is written by one of his pre-Baroque predecessors or inspirations. I'd also prefer if it were in A major/minor.

Some current ideas I have include:

• Bach/Busoni - Adagio from BWV 564 (A minor and brief, although similarly heavy and dark
• Gibbons - Pavane and Gaillard (possible candidate; thoughts?)
• Kerll - Passacaglia in D minor (not A minor, somewhat heavy, maybe too similar in structure to Chaconne)
• Bach/Rachmaninoff - Gavotte (not A minor, short and light, but maybe too light and not serious enough?)
• Byrd - Fantasia (A minor, possible candidate)[\li]
  

I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer on the above ideas, as well as any other repertoire suggestions you might have.
