Many will agree that Op. 39 No. 5 is the best of his etudes. My favorites are:

Op 33:
2
3
4 (especially 4, but I have a very narrow-minded view of how it should be played, so I tend to dislike recordings of it)
6
7 (especially 7)

Op 39:
2 (my favorite etude, probably)
5
8

If you haven't played the preludes, you'll find that they are somewhat similar in form. The etudes are not technical studies in the same way that Chopin's etudes are - they are more free-form and do not focus so much on specific technical aspects for the most part. Similarly, the preludes are of roughly equal length, and there are a few which focus on technical aspects while others are more free-form lyrical works. And all of these pieces range in technical difficulty from moderate to exremely hard. Pretty much all of them have rather complex voicing and give a lot of freedom for interperetation.

Good luck! :)

Another person that loves Op. 33 No. 4. I learned this piece, it is difficult, but it is so great!!

And No. 7 is the greatest Etude in the Opus 33 set, in my opinion. My favorite Etude out of both books, even. I also recommend Op. 39 No. 3.

op33 no8 in c sharp minor is my favourite

the emotion is this piece is so incredible and overpowering, and the final crescendo if played well will send shivers down any spine

lugansky and volodos play this superbly, volodos opting for a slower, more expansive feel, and lugansky is more brisk, yet both are phenomenal recordings.

also look out for a video performance of volodos playing this etude, its also great
