New melodic compositions for piano - free to play live.
on: September 10, 2021, 08:44:02 PM
Hi people,

There are now scores available for a number of my piano compositions at my website. Here are a couple:

https://owendavidmusic.files.wordpress.com/2021/04/march-of-the-ostrogoths-final-score.pdf

The music is free to play live, should you be interested in adding them to your repertoire.

And here's Anna Sutyagina's beautiful interpretations of the two pieces:

The tenutos (tenuti?) on the 32nds (e.g. measure 46) in the second piece, what do they mean?  Just an accent?

Step up from Julio Fong, at least.

Yes, effectively just accenting in this context as they are being played at speed.

Greetings Owen...

Like 'The Winds', this is a breath of fresh air compared to the last person who promoted his 'compositions'.

I'll have a sight-read of them later on, but Anna's playing genuinely gave them justice... well done.

Small hint in your notation - there is no need for arpeggio signs to have actual up arrows, UNLESS you have to differ between ones that go down (very rare), and I didn't see them... so just get rid of the arrow head... also, make use of either single not ottava changes when the notes get REALLY low, like bar 12, 21 etc... and octave signs when there are LOTS of legder lines like the last beat of 29 - 30.

Makes it much easier to read and of course play.

I REALLY like The winds. I'll be playing it later today.

Ok!  You shouldn't use them like that, for piano the tenuto marking is used differently than normal, indicating a sostenuto; legato is the norm for piano, so it means to exaggerate the duration.  Just use one of the many accent marks.
