[Feedback Needed] Video, Moon River by H. Mancini
on: January 02, 2022, 07:55:38 AM
I've been practicing piano for 2.5 years. This is my "work in progress" for the Moon River from the Breakfast at Tiffany's, arranged by H. Mancini.

I am looking for any tips how to make this piece sound enjoyable. Apart from a few misplayed notes e.g. on the bar 38, I am quite confident with this piece. That said I have a feeling I am lacking expression necessary for making this piece enjoyable for others. Any suggestions are welcome.

The sheet music is attached.

Nice, musical. Agree you can have brighter sound in the melody, more dynamics, try forte/fortissimo on the melody and piano/pianissimo on left hand. Maybe try More rubato, make important notes sound loud. It works as cocktail piano as is. Im no expert. You can add bells and whistles when you get more accomplished. Check out Christian Fuchs  cocktail piano youtuber for example, he is fun. Have you seen a moon river NO! But Moon rover! Yes!  ;D

Not bad especially the end is cool.

you could try and use the pedal so that phrases are not interrupted. Be careful not to overdo it (too much pedal = blurry sound)
You probably learned it in sections and you kind of see when in your mind you "start a new section" -> Try to practice this transition more so that you get a more smooth and continuous "delivery".

Take a bit more risk here and there and see if it works. Think about an actual or imaginary moon river before you start.

Regards,
Gert
