Rachmaninoff Etudes-Tableaux op. 39 no. 6 - what fingering?
on: April 13, 2022, 09:30:52 PM
Hey guys!
For the leggiero figures in the right hand, do you use 5231 or 5321? Which one do you prefer and why?
To me, both feel equally good, but for some reason my hand hovers towards 5231. It also helps with the B-D#-D#-B because 53 on the 6th is a rather big jump.
Kind regards!

IMO you’ve got to use 5-3-2-1. It’s a very easy and natural motion for your fingers to swipe to your palm in the order 5-4-3-2 (try!). I suppose the advantage of 5-2-3-1 is that you can use rotation, so feel free to try it out and decide.
But for me personally, 5-3-2-1 feels great!

I used 5-3-2-1 throughout when I played it. I don't really think you have a choice if you are going for high speed. It feels very natural to do that quickly as shashasha says.
