Hi

This is my second post here. In my first post I illustrated some difficulties I'm having with my teacher leaving. This is no doubt aggrivated by the lack of connection I have with any musical community in my city, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

If anyone here may be familiar with the musical culture in this city and perhaps can steer me to where other classical piano students may tend to congregate either on-line or in person, I hope you can share that information here.

Thank you,
geo

Do you have Meet-Ups in Canada?  In States they are a pretty standard way for people who have specific interests to get together. Also, since you are in the country of the RCM, perhaps checking with the RCM to see if there are any RCM piano student clubs.

I never thought about inquiring with the RCM about such a thing. That's a good idea, thanks!

Is your new teacher an ORMTA member?  Ask your teacher about any of the local events offered.

University of Guelph has a strong program in improvisation studies, up to PhD level.  They also publish a peer reviewed journal on the subject.  You are very likely surrounded by people deeply involved with improvisation in your community.  IMO improvisation is an essential part of one's musical education, however, unfortunately it is not given a place of great importance in current day classical music curriculum.  See if there are any community events that provide a space for you to improvise with other musicians.

Improvising at home when you are by yourself is one thing, but improvising collaboratively with others requires one to build certain skills that one would be less likely to explore in solo improvisation.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thanks. I might look into that as well. I do have limitations on my free time, 4 hours/week only in a Thursday afternoon. I’ll have to inquire as to their schedule.

Thanks!
