Concerto for solo piano
on: July 04, 2022, 04:17:18 PM
I have previously uploaded this (some years ago) but a lot of time has passed and I always wanted to do a quasi-narrative image montage version. I finally put this together over the last week or so. The final movement (the Dies Irae part) was always in my mind as the specifically representational part of the work, in a way which applied less firmly to the remainder, thus the images there are very descriptive of what the music meant in my mind when I was writing it.

In any case, a brief technical note re the construction of this. The non- Dies Irae segments are formed from usage / mutation of the two main motifs at the beginning of the first movement: for example the main theme of the second movement is a reconstitution of the second theme in the first movement.

Live recording with a few small edits.

Movements:

Allegro deciso (0:02)
Reverie (8:17)
Dies Irae (14:02); Il ritorno (20:19)
