Accent Staccato technique

Hello this is a performance of a Alma Deutscher of one of her pieces.:

I noticed this technique which consists in lifting the hand very high just after releasing the key to accomplish an accentuated stacatto touch.

I wonder if some one knows that technique. I had never seen that, and  I'm not sure I understand the logic behind but I tried it and It seems to work.

I guess the logic is that if you remove your hand quickly you get a short note? :P
