Pedaling in Chopin 6th prelude
on: October 18, 2022, 03:57:38 AM
This question is about pedaling in Chopin's 6th prelude. In measures 6-8 and 15-21, am I supposed to change the pedal every 8th note? Also what does sostenuto mean in the piece?

At least every 8th note, yeah. Possibly even on every 16th to make it sound clean. Depends on how deep you press the pedal as well, or if you use pedal at all. Don't forget you can vary your pedalling a lot within the same piece! So experiment with all the possibilities I have mentioned, and see what you like!
