A pianist who teaches at Indiana I believe (could be wrong) named Evelyne Branchart came to my school (Illinois Wesleyan University) and played all 24 etudes without intermission. It was really quite impressive overall, although many people who saw the performance would say that she played some better than others.
MT has done it on several occasions, most recently last year at Jailyard.koji (STSD)
In my opinion a more interesting programme would be Chopin etudes in the first half and Chopin-Godowsky etudes in the second half. That is what Berezovsky frequently plays.
ive heard that he alternates themie: playing 10/1 then one of godowsky's 10/1 etudes, then 10/2 and one of godowsky's... and so oni think this is very interesting way to get a direct comparison!
Yeah, Chopin himself and maybe Liszt
valentina lisitsa immedietly comes to mind, she has done it a few times i believe.
Yeah I have her DVD. She plays all of them.BTW She is beautiful
In my recital last night I played ALL the Etudes, the 24 Preludes, Schumann's Fantasie and Rach's 3. As an afterthought I put into the programme the complete works of Alkan and, as an encore played the Funeral March Sonata on Chopin. I woke up in terrible sweat.
Eduardis Halim programmed the Complete op 10 and 25 and the complete Preludes in one concert, I seem to recall. At Carnegie Hall, maybe 10 years ago.
A couple of my friends are in his studio. Neat, weird guy. Horowitz's last student.
Monique Deschaussées wrote a book specifically on how to work the 24 études in order to be able to play them as a cycle... She had numerous students playing the 24 études and they had to be able to play them twice in a row. It is an excellent book.
what is the name of the book?
Frédéric Chopin, 24 études vers une interprétation - (éditions Van de Velde 1995)
