General Music Dicussion

What is everybody’s favorite genre of music and why? I’ll start,

Mine is R&B because it has substance. I love music that seems to flow smoothly while keeping the raw emotion as unfiltered as possible.

As a classical musician, it should be obvious what my favourite music genre is. I love classical music because of its purity in sound and requirement to let the player(s) demonstrate their passion and interpretation in new ways we have never even conceived of.
Play piano. It is groovy!

I don't know if I have a favorite genre. I like different pieces of music and songs by different composers, artists and bands. It just so happens many of them are classical composers. But many of them are also bands with roots in hardcore punk or death metal, different kinds of ambient music, various experimental things. I also like a bunch of random stuff from everything from pop to jazz to folk.

I am the same. In general genre neither concerns nor interests me and indeed seems a superfluous classification. I just listen to everything, react to sounds I hear and bring anything I like into my own creative vocabulary for improvisation. I have had a lifelong infatuation with the archaic sensuality of ragtime in the broadest possible sense, but to some extent this is sentimental association from my youth and I doubt it influences my improvisation now, at least not at the conscious level.
