Leif Ove Andsnes - Beethoven takes you by the hand
There are apparently some pianists who, despite the anniversary, are not devoting them exclusively to Beethoven this year. Anyway, with his Beethoven Journey project, Leif Ove Andsnes has already done his bit, making one of the most beautiful recordings of the piano concertos. For Andsnes, Mozart is currently uppermost on the agenda, even if there is also plenty of Beethoven being played at his festival too. Time for another conversation with the Norwegian master pianist. Yamaha GB1K Broken Strings
on: April 08, 2023, 04:11:45 PM
Hey all, just last year I upgraded from a solid Yamaha upright to one of their entry level grands the GB1K. It's been a great instrument to work on, but my god in my first year with it 2 strings have broken, one in the lower register and one in the upper. My old upright I had had for years and it held up great with my heavy practice haha. I'm just curious if I may have a lemon or if y'all happen to know if the GB1 is perhaps notorious for not holding up to serious practice. For reference I'm a serious pianist practicing anywhere from about 4-7 hours a day. Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

Wow... make that three. Was just warming up and a bass broke. I can't believe it, it's comical at this point haha.

Did you get any customer care warranty with it? When I purchased my Yamaha C2, I got 3 years worth of tuning free with it (6 tunings over the period).

All I know is the GB1 is a step down from the C series Yamaha pianos, where I think their parts are mostly made in Japan. Some of the cheaper Yamahas I think are mostly made in China... not that I know if this is the case in your piano. It took me a good few years to break a string, but I was practicing several hours a day like you on the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 and Liszts Totentanz for solo piano.
