First Schumann piece
on: April 16, 2023, 08:41:42 PM
Hi everyone :)

I’ve been playing classical piano for a while now but have somehow never played any Schumann. What would you recommend as a first piece(s) to help me get familiar with him before I get into the larger works? My current rep includes Beethoven sonata op.2/3 and the Prokofiev Toccata just to give an idea of my level.

Thanks

You could try the Kinderszenen. They're among his best work, and several movements are rather famous, and short and fairly easy technically, so theyre rewarding to learn but don't take too much time to take on.

I think the youth album is the best for start. The pieces are easy but you can learn how to play schumann and a good start.

Not a fan of those pieces personally. Selections from Kinderszenen or Waldszenen could be good choices.
