Beginners concerto and next etude
on: June 15, 2023, 05:26:18 AM
HELLO fellow piano fanatics!
I'm an aspiring pianist, still feeling my way into the world of Chopin etudes and discovering what it means to re learn a piece after not playing it for a month.
My first question is, having already played op. 25 1-2, what would be a good next Chopin etude for me? My teacher said I should choose it.
question two is what a good beginner concerto would be. I'll get the chance to play one soon, which an orchestra (a small one, which my uncle conducts). Below is my previous repertoire.
beethoven sonata no. 1 in f minor, first movement
beethoven sonata no. 8 in c minor, second movement
beethoven sonata no. 14 in c sharp minor
first and second set
beethoven for elise
mozart sonata v, k 283 in g major
first and second set
mozart sonata viii in b flat major, k 333(?)
mozart sonata in a, k 331, turkish march
Bach: prelude and fugue in b flat major book 2
Gustav Lange: Blumenlied (beautiful piece, not difficult at all)
Mendelssohn: Songs without Words - Hunter's Song
Brahms: Hungarian Dances for Four Hands - 1,5,6
Bach Prelude and Fugue in B flat major Volume II
Bartók alegro barbaro
Rachmaninoff op.3 no 2 in c Sharp minor
Chopin: lento con gran espressione
Chopin: Berceuse
And the two Chopin Etudes
I don't intend to become a concert pianist, I just do it as a hobby.
I look forward to feedback and have a great day
Pete

A bit late, but a lot of Mozart's concertos fall into your level. I'd recommend the 27th or 23rd(I'm not just saying that because of the 2nd movement!). Both have really nice passages, and neither really have a bad moment.
25/1-2 are among the easiest Chopin Etudes. To not overshoot, I'd go with another easier one. 25/9 and 10/6 are on the easier side of Chopin's Etudes.
