Recital Program
on: June 24, 2023, 12:12:53 AM
Planning a 1-1.5 hour recital (closer to 1). Pieces to choose from are Beethoven Sonata No. 4, Bach-Busoni Chaccone, Liszt Reminiscences de Norma, Schumann Fantasy, Rachmaninoff Moment Musicals 1-6, Prokofiev Sonata No. 6, and Brahms Paganini Variations Book 1, Chopin Etudes Op. 25 No. 5-8.

So far, I was thinking about the program below. Thoughts?

Rach 5 and 6
Prokofiev
Intermission
Schumann
Bach Busoni

Personally, I like to balance programs so you get a variety between "heavier" and "lighter" pieces, to give the program som dynamics, some peaks and valleys. I think it's easier and more engaging for the listener. With that in mind, I would not do both the Schumann fantasy and the Bach Busoni in the same part of the recital. The Schumann is a big piece with a lot going on emotionally, so I would feel quite sated by that and then Bach Busoni would be a bit too much on top. But that's just my personal taste.

I think Bach Busoni is a great recital opener if that sounds interesting to you.
