Tango Piano

Hello everyone

I wanted to take a moment to shed some light on the fascinating world of Tango Piano and highlight the benefits it offers to both pianists and music teachers alike. While Tango may not be as widely known as other genres, it's a captivating style that combines elements of jazz and classical music, making it a truly rewarding and enriching experience to learn.

One of the similarities between Tango and Jazz lies in the way we approach the music. In both genres, we often learn from lead sheets, where we're presented with a melody and chords. This grants us the freedom to put our own unique spin on the piece by crafting arrangements that incorporate chords, rhythm, and improvisation. Tango Piano, like Jazz, encourages creativity and self-expression, allowing us to explore the rich possibilities within a framework.

Harmonically speaking, Tango Piano occupies a unique space between classical music and jazz. This genre blossomed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and while it retains a tonal foundation, it exhibits harmonic complexities that add depth and intrigue to the compositions. By delving into Tango Piano, you'll be exposed to a rich harmonic palette that expands your understanding and appreciation of music.

For pianists and teachers looking to broaden their musical horizons, Tango Piano offers a multitude of benefits. First and foremost, it provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding of harmony. Tango compositions often feature lush chords and progressions that require a keen ear and a solid grasp of harmony. By diving into this genre, you'll develop a heightened sense of chord voicings, substitutions, and extensions, which can greatly enhance your overall musicianship.

Additionally, Tango Piano allows for the exploration of technique and rhythm. The rhythmic intricacies of Tango can be both challenging and invigorating, pushing pianists to refine their sense of timing, articulation, and phrasing. Moreover, the fusion of classical and jazz influences in Tango demands a versatile approach to technique, allowing you to expand your technical abilities in new and exciting ways.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or need assistance along your Tango Piano path. I'm always happy to help fellow music enthusiasts discover the joy of this remarkable genre. Let's embrace the beauty of Tango Piano together!

Happy playing,
Tomas

Thanks. I think I’ll look into it. I’m delving into jazz and ragtime as classical can get challenging. Tango sounds like the best of both worlds.

My question is whether there are methodology book series on tango u can recommend? How does one explore that avenue?

Update: I do see your website now.

They haven't been back here in almost 6 months... I doubt they're going to return.

In fact, that last day they were active on this forum was the exact and only day they signed up and posted that initial post... then they disappeared.
