Apple ForScore and Alternatives
on: November 02, 2023, 05:44:35 AM
I want to purchase a system that will eliminate piles of music I keep around my piano.
EDIT:
Thought I should clarify what I'm looking for: eliminating of sheet music while learning and playing. I could almost use a PDF reader if it had a way to "turn pages."
I have no interest in having access to sheet music libraries - just a way to manage my sheet music I've accumulated over the past 50 years. NOTE: second thoughts on library access. It is possible I might want to survey some Beethoven sonatas or parts from various concertos - that wouldn't be a long list, but I would have to scan many pages. But given to the limited and fixed number of such stuff, paying to have access to "everything" wouldn't make sense, I'm thinking...
EDIT END:
This means hardware and software.
I have a Windows laptop with large screen which is probably where I'd start - a tablet (or notebook that can fold into a tablet may eventually happen.)
I'm a Windows/Android user and not keen on buying an iPad Pro just to run ForScore.
Other softwares? Does Apple "own this" application?
Page turning would be first concern: bluetooth pedals is not ideal - another thing to have to carry around. Anything better than touching the screen? Eye or head movement? Or?
Since have not tried any of this, while I have money to buy what I want, I don't know what I want. I don't want to horse off and get something that I'll eventually be dissatisfied with - so maybe the first step is use my Windows laptop and free/cheap software to see what features I like or don't like.
Of are there any youtubes that survey what's out there? I looked around and first problem is what are the correct search terms to get what I'm after. Will try BARD or ChatGPT...
Thanks
Tom

Are u asking for the -entire- process of converting to digital with your physical books? And only on Windows? Without using a Bluetooth pedal? I can probably offer some insights but trying to gauge where u r at and what u have done. I’m trying to understand why windows and some of your other parameters, but they are restricting my commentary bc I don’t quite follow the logic flow.
What I think u r asking there won’t be an easy system but it is possible. The page turning question I need clarification bc I never had a problem with that.. that, if anything, always easier than physically turning a page.
I’ll also mention directly that there won’t be a one all solution but a bunch of parts that can work. However it won’t come without a hefty price (one’s time). The cost benefit analysis doesn’t make it worth it imo but if u clarify the question there are values in that direction.
