1917 Mason & Hamlin cracked sound board
on: November 10, 2023, 06:48:45 PM
Hi Everyone,

We were told my grandmother's 1917 Mason & Hamlin has a cracked sound board.

I'm wondering how much it would cost to fix this and if it's worth trying to fix.

No one plays piano, but we're interested in selling it.

Thanks,
Sondra

Hi Sondra,

A cracked soundboard may not be the end of the world. However, a warped one might just be. If the crack is causing a vibration or an odd sound, that is a problem.

Replacing a sound board on a piano that age may not be possible. You might find someone willing to do it, but it might cost you more than what the piano is worth. It is a major undertaking.

It might be worth getting someone in to look at it and advise.

Rob

Thanks, Rob! Lots of good information.

We decided to give it away.
