Gaspard de La nuit on Harpsicord?

How would Impressionism sound on a harpsichord/forte piano?

A lot of the atmosphere and soundscapes he creates would be lost without pedal. The harpsichord also doesn't have enough range to fit the highest and lowest notes of the work.

The intro sequence to Scarbo will probably be removed, or the repeating C sharp in the middle section.

I've heard Ondine and Scarbo on an organ and while there was some nice colouring, both were too muddy for my liking (due to the instrument, not the performer). I feel the same about Marius Constant's orchestra version.

If someone did make an arrangement for harpsichord, solving the range issue, it would have the opposite problem of being too severe. Like creating Monet's Sunrise as a lino print. I'm not saying it wouldn't be impressive and take a lot of skill, but you'd lose too much for it to be anything more than a gimmick.
