Mendelssohn Piano Trio 1
on: December 11, 2023, 01:25:57 PM
Someone asked me if I could play Mendelssohn Piano trio with them (on piano or course) but I'm not sure how hard it is, can anyone tell me the difficulty level?

It's hard to describe the difficulty of multimovement works.  I read through it once but it was over 20 years ago.  There is one movement that is very fast, hence challenging at full tempo...

The first step is to download the score from IMSLP and look at it.  If you have  at least 5 years of piano, you should be able to assess the difficulty (for yourself).  You can also watch a live performance on YT and gauge the difficulty that way.

I'm not sure what movement they wanted to play but I've played for about 7 years now (practicing for abrsm 8) I looked at the piece and I thought that it wouldn't be super hard

It's pretty hard if you are going for full tempo.
