This is my latest fugue. It is in a 'modern' style.
Id be curious your impressions.

Thanks for listening.

Fantastic work!  This is a tough one to analyze after only a couple listens because no score is provided, the fugue subject is very dissonant and very long with tough rhythms and unclear time signature to my ear.  The fugue appears to be in 3 voices with the 2nd voice stating the fugue subject in melodic inversion.  Fugue exposition ends at about 1:15 minute marker and I LOVE the new quick material that follows. This new material seems to be the impetus for much of the explosive middle section of this work. The 3rd and final section begins at 2:45 minute marker and brings the work to a peaceful conclusion.  I’ve written a few fugues in the past in the style of Bach and Mendelssohn.  This work inspires me to try something modern, but I know I could not come close to the quality of your work.  Congratulations!

Thanks for listening, Frodo!
I appreciate your generous response and am glad you liked it.
Indeed, the second entrance was the inversion.
Ive written 15 fugues so far, the first 8 of them gradually navigated from baroque through classical, romantic and impressionistic - stylistically - though there was some blending of these styles occurring  in each of the first 8 to varying degrees. Since the fugue - as a vehicle - can obviously be applied to modern sensibilities, the last 7 of them have been firmly in a modern context.

Ive really enjoyed the process of that exploration, and would say, Yes, Frodo, definitely have a go at it! There's a lot of fun to be had there!

(Just to mention, this fugue along with my latest 5 fugues do employ a 12 tone approach, but was careful with the harmonic language so that it seemed not so abstract but relatable - with varying degrees of dissonance. My hope is that they are emotionally convincing.)
Again, thanks so much for listening!

Not bad, reading that it was in the "modern" style I braced myself for not liking it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It made me want to listen to some Feinberg

Very cool! Do you share your fugue scores somewhere? I always enjoy studying people's counterpoint writing.
