Questions about Chopin Polonaise 0pus 40 Nr 1
on: February 16, 2024, 08:12:25 PM
I've got a few questions about Chopin Polonaise Op 40 Nr 1

1). For the descending trills area (shown in attachments), is that the right fingering?  is there anything else more optimal?  and i'm thinking of trilling 4 keys for each tr.  is that right?

2)  The first trill sequence where it shows fingers 3,1 for both the left and right hand imply a trill that has opposing key strikes - one is up while the other is down.  Is that correct?  and for the following two trill sections that are similar.

3)  Also, is the fingering I've marked up, optimal?

Also, any other advice you have on playing this piece would help.

Thanks!

1) I think this is subjective, whatever fingering works for you is fine. I think you can do more notes if you are fast, but it's fine to do what's comfortable for you at this stage as well.

2) no, I think you should trill in unison using 31 in both hands. So it'll be alternate fingers, not alternate notes. At the time this sheet was engraved, it was assume that you'd do that.
