Lisztomania today! Vote for which song you think is harder.

Wilde Jagd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s-MPHM2GMk
Friska: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QdsY-Gj5GE (transitions to cadenza at 3:47, cadenza is not being voted on so ignore that part.)

Bracket isn't working again. :(

Wow, HR 2 Friska has more votes? :o I was on the fence but that's what I picked - guess I'm not the only one. I thought it would be a really unpopular opinion. Those jumps are just really awkward and crazy, what can I say?

Jeez. Definitely not what I was expecting. The trills and leaps in Wilde Jagd made me sure it would win. It really is Musical Madness.

Here's a question...
What do we do if there's a tie?

Some ideas:
- Check Henle and they get a vote based on their grading system (Which is a problem, because they don't have sheets for everything)
- They both lose and the one they would've gone against gets a freebie to the next round
- You remove your vote, since you organized it

I don't really know the "best" way - just do what you prefer.

Checked Henle. According to them, Wilde Jagd alone is harder than all of HR 2. I don't know if I agree with that...
I feel like Mazeppa would beat them both anyways lol, and that vote is unanimous at the time of this writing.
Alternatively, what if they both advance and we have Friska vs. Wilde Jagd vs. whichever piece advances from match 8?

Yeah, I didn't have very good ideas, that's why I put 3 different alternatives

Having played Wilde Jagd, I voted for Friska. Wilde Jagd sounds impressive but it is seriously not that hard, I'd say it's the easiest of the virtuosic sounding Transcendental Etudes. A lot of it lies comfortably under the hands, and the trickier parts with jumps you just need to practice slowly and carefully and you'll hit at least 90% of the notes when performing ;) The flats in the key makes it way more forgiving.

Honestly, (keep in mind that I haven't even tried any of the etudes except Preludio) I feel like Wilde Jagd is capable of challenging Chasse-Neige for the 3rd hardest of the transcendentals. The three-fingered trills in the right hand near the end at the same time as multi-octave jumps are nigh impossible. The arpeggios in the cadenza, the leaps often spanning multiple octaves, the desynced hands throughout the song (for example, right at the start), and the fact that it comes in at just under 5 minutes only add to the difficulty. Friska has a lot of leaps and repeated notes with a few runs and trills thrown in, but it is much shorter and, imo, less difficult overall.
Nowhere near Mazeppa though.

I just realized that the Friska video I provided also includes the Cadenza for HR 2. Crud.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
