Out of curiosity, who here has developed perfect pitch and can play by ear?

I have not. But let me tell you, my relative pitch is exponentially better than it was 12 years ago when I started my music degree. Back then, I couldn't tell if a violinist or singer was playing in tune or slightly off. Now I quite often hear when somebody is not on pitch. This of course also helps with transcribing music from recordings and stuff. Even if you can't learn perfect pitch, you can certainly train your hearing a great deal.
