The Godowsky transcription of chopin's op. 10 no. 1 in my opinion is nuts, the one where the left and right hands go in contrary motion.  Just listen to Robert Henry's recording.  I can play the original well, but this one is just impossible.  I am not really familiar with Alkans music very much so, i can't recommend anything.  Any of the Grande Etudes by Liszt should be very difficult (I have only played the Transcendentals, never the originals).  I think something that would be worth your time and effort would be the last etude in the grande etudes.  It would be great work for all your tremolos.  That, and it is a beautiful piece.  Also, the Rachmaninov Prelude op. 23 no. 9 as recommended above is impossible.  Scriabin Etude op. 42 no. 5 is also rediculous- but gorgeous.

Yeah mazeppa is sweet, if you learn it , record it for me ;)
No.10 "Appasionata" (at least thats its nickname on my Evegeny Kissin cd lol) is very difficult too. But i have heard, yet not experienced, that it is hard, but not as hard as mazeppa and the others I mentioned. The first, preludio, is what im capable of at the moment,  ;) ;D, lol so im dont really have that much experience. But from word of mouth, mazeppa is harder, not to say that no. 10 isnt.

I guess that wasnt really the correct answer to your question: in reply:

No.10 is hard. lol
