Problematic pinky + questions for pieces.
on: June 23, 2024, 02:35:32 PM
Hello, pianostreet,
I watched a video of me playing Rachmaninoff's moment misicaux op. 16 no. 4, and i noticed, for some reason my pinky looks very straight, almost pointing upwards and looking very strenuous. When i play i don't feel as if my hand would be tight, it's relaxed, i doubt if it were tight, i'd be able to play the Left hand passages. I've read maybe it's because i am stretching my thumb more, but it feels like that's gonna be impossible not to do, since my hands barely reach an octave. Is it fine? Or am i supposed to change something
i=FHxkuhGQsGM0cNa- this is the link for the start of how i play.
After watching the clip, do you guys know, if i were to be able to play Chopin's Ballade no. 3? i have an exam next year, and i was hoping to try and play it, but the coda is scaring me a bit.

If it's straight like that, there is tension, but it'll be in muscles in your forearm, not necessarily in your hand.
Seems like it's not tight enough to prevent you from playing at this tempo. However, could you play it at performance tempo with a high level of clarity and power? The further you need to push something, the less inefficiencies you can get away with.
