VIDEO: Rach 3 - PART 1: Movement 1 (Pages 1-8)
on: June 27, 2024, 08:39:12 PM
I've just finished working through the first movement of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto Op.30. I've been working on the second movement but I thought I'd share a performance practise video of the first 8 pages of the first movement. I have recordings of the entire first movement and I will also share those at some stage. It's still a work in progress and I hope you enjoy!

The orchestra will lose you at 0:30 !
I never find performances of that pause conving, apart from a historic recording I heard in 1972 and I have no idea who the performers were!

i think of those opening pages as a boat on the sea, rocking, but then at that bar a bigger wave comes and shifts the gear, and the boat goes over the wave.

Yes, I agree. I have adjusted that section since recording this video! There's actually a few areas that needed to breathe a little, too.
