Help purchasing new piano Perhaps Yamaha Clp 885
on: July 29, 2024, 12:01:07 AM
Hi all, I started piano during covid with the Roland fp30.  I think it is time to upgrade and I'm thinking of the yamaha 885.

Firstly, I notice all the prices are the same in stores (UK).  Can you do any bargaining at all or is that just rude?

And do you think that the 885 is too much piano? Would i notice much difference if I went for a cheaper one in the series.  I really am just a self taught beginner who only plays on dp and has never had  teacher.

Thank you all

You will notice a difference, it is absolutely true that with pianos you get what you pay for. I upgraded last year from the Yamaha Arius to a Kawai 901 and the change in quality both playability and sound is dramatic.

Is the Yamaha CLP-885 Too Much Piano?
Short answer: No—if you can afford it and plan to keep playing, the CLP-885 is a top-tier digital piano and won’t limit your growth.

But also yes, in the sense that you may not notice or benefit from the more premium features right away if you’re just playing for fun and haven’t tried a real grand.

What You Get with the CLP-885:
GrandTouch keyboard with wooden keys – the most piano-like action in Yamaha’s lineup.

Spruce key bottoms, counterweights, and escapement – details that mimic grand piano mechanics.

Upgraded speaker system – clearer, more dynamic sound.

Binaural CFX sampling – great for headphone realism.

It would make a big difference to invest in external studio speakers which come with their own internal amplifier. Such as Yamaha HS8 series.
