Favorite Scriabin pieces to play, listen to
on: August 01, 2024, 01:05:52 PM
This topic has been created before but I wanted to create a more in depth one.
Even though I've been playing piano for many years, I'm just starting to learn Scriabin pieces.  I guess I've been put off by the longer learning curve in reading and learning the notes/rhythm.  I'd like to get some ideas on what to play.

Regarding his piano solo pieces:
What's your favorite Sciabin piece to listen to and why?
What pieces have you played by Scriabin and do you have any favorites and why?

thanks!

My favourite to play (so far, I plan on learning more) is Sonata 9 because there's so much you can do with it. You can play exactly as written and let it speak for itself, you can pull it around like Chopin (whom Scriabin idolised), you can do a bit of both (in different places each time). I never get tired of it.

Listening wise, Richter's recordings of Sonatas 5 and 7.

Scriabin is one of my favorites to listen to, I haven't gotten good enough to play most of his best stuff yet (he's like Liszt, most of his best pieces are extremely tough).

Impromptu 12/2 - devastatingly beautiful
Quasi-Valse op. 47
Egoroff Variations WoO 9
Sonata Fantasie in G-Sharp Minor
His Nocturnes from Op 5
Etude 8/12
Vers La Flamme
Any of his sonatas
Fantaisie in B Minor

For me, I enjoy listening to the 10th because of so much fun chromaticism, and a simple, yet expansive form.
last 3 schubert sonatas and piano trios are something else
