preparing for a recital :/
on: August 04, 2024, 02:07:55 PM
tips please? :D
I will be performing my first at a pretty big hall in a few months and am very very worried..
because I have never practiced so much repertoire at once. Do people usually work on everything all in a day (there's not enough time?)
and because of tension...
what if I start my first piece or get through a few and then get super tense..
please please throw some advice thanks!

Congratulations!

When I used to perform I did not necessarily work on everything each day. Rather focus on what needs the most work, and rotate different material different days. Then occasionally do the easier stuff to make sure it is in order. Approaching the concert it's often been lots of slow work to make sure everything is maintained.

If you are worried about tension, I would select and practice starting from plentiful of spots where you can "reset" any tension. Ideally, you shouldn't be accumulating tension, but if you do, make sure you have these spots, that you have practiced starting from with your body in optimal state.

Also practice like you perform. Once in a while pretend you are in the stage walk in,give a bow and start playing.
I am currently working on:
Bach p&f in c minor wtc book 1
Beethoven op 2 no 1 first movement
Chopin Black keys etude
