Suggestion for choosing the next Chopin Nocturne !
on: August 20, 2024, 01:14:09 PM
Hello ! I'd need a suggestion to choose another Nocturne.

I currently play 2 Nocturnes :
-- Nocturne 72/1 E Minor
-- Nocturne postomous in C Sharp Minor "lento con gran espressione"

I already excluded the following Nocturnes (for now) :

-- Op 48/1 ; it is so beautiful but it is beyond my ability  :'(
-- Op 9/3 ; same
-- Op. 27/2 ; same

I am open to suggestions !  :) Thanks in advance !   :-[

Opus 9/1 is one of my favorites, not as hard as 9/3 nor as overplayed as 9/2.

Also, Opus 15/3 in G minor is not very difficult, and is quite beautiful.

I just started practicing 27/1 today. The Ab section (and lead-up to it) is the only part of the piece that has any significant difficulty.
It's also relatively unpopular --due to being overshadowed by 27/2-- and still an excellent piece.
Hope this helps,

I'd like to point out that Faure, Poulenc, Debussy, Field, Liszt, and Liebermann all have your own nocturnes. Not too many of the Chopin nocturnes are too bad technically and I'm sure you're well aware of them enough to make a good decision by yourself. If you want my opinion, 37/2 and 15/2 are some of my favorites.
last 3 schubert sonatas and piano trios are something else
