Rach Sonata 2 2nd Movement 1913/1931
on: October 10, 2024, 12:31:06 PM
Hey everyone!

I was wondering if I should select the 1913 or 1931 version of the piece, but it will only be a standalone second movement, no other movement. Which version will be best?

In my humble opinion I believe the original is far superior to the revised score, and I don't mean just the second movement but the entire sonata. Pianists today play the revised version a lot, but I do believe the edits by Rachmaninov were of poor taste. This is one of those revisions I simply can never understand. You will do just fine with the original.

I believe the 1913 version is significantly harder from a technical point of view if that's a consideration!
