'O Sole Mio' played by Elton John
on: October 31, 2024, 11:27:26 PM
So I began trying to figure out this lovely interpretation by Elton John, and I would like a little help.

The song as we know it doesn't start until 1:08, but from the very start below is what I have:
Code: [Select]
RH: (DF#B) C B (DA)   B A (DG) D D
LH: (F#B)      (DF#B)     (GB)
Then it pretty much repeats but I'm assuming that the part that sounds like the same (when repeating), is not exactly the same.
Code: [Select]
RH: (DF#B) C B (DA)   B A (DG) A (DF#A)     B (BD) A A G (CG) C C
LH: (F#B)      (DF#B)     (GB)   (F#B)        (FB)        G
I'm not sure exactly what he's playing for the chord below where I have the LH D octave. For this, in a way it sounds like there should be an Eb melody note over the RH G note... but I can't seem to hear it???

Then after that there's what sounds like a half dim chord with notes (BFAD)??? And I think there's a second LH F note played during this?
Code: [Select]
RH: G (CEbG) F F Eb G   D D B (AD) C C  Bb Bb   Ab Ab  G G
LH:    G           (DD)   D   (BF)   F    (BbDF)        (GBD)
So taking it from the G chord at 0:32, does he start on it with just one F note in the left hand, or an F octave? And I think it's just (BDB) in the right hand... don't think there's any F in the right hand.

What about the Bm at 0:41? When he lands on that you can hear the F# note in the LH, but is there also an F note in the LH? I don't think there is!

Taking it from 0:50, it starts on a Cm but I think it's very important to keep the lower LH C note held when changing to inverted half dim chord... if I've it right!
Code: [Select]
       C
    C  C    Ab Ab
    G  G    F  F
RH: Eb Eb   D  D
LH: C  C    Ab
    G
    C

He does these two chords again at 0:57, but it's too difficult to hear the exact way he's doing them as it's quite a bit lower???

I know I'm on the right track but I would like some advice on the nuances that Elton chooses. Didn't know, but the reason he played here is because the guy who wrote the song is from Naples. Thanks
